POST 8: English Language Challenges

My mum is an English teacher, but it has been two or three years since she stopped doing that and now she sells clothes on social networks. For that reason, I've had a very close relationship with English since I was a little kid, listening to a lot of English music or just practicing in the afternoons after school with my mother talking about different life issues. When I was in my middle education, I left the practice of English and I radically changed English music for the urban music of South America. So, even though I have enough knowledge to understand the language, I had a hard time remembering and catching up with some English units in the first classes of the course. However, I really think that the course has had throughout the semester and the commitment that our teacher has made learning much easier and more practical. Also, blogs are a very important tool for practicing writing through entertaining topics that are close to our person. Without a doubt, I have to improve

POST 7: Changes to my Study Program

At this moment, I´m finishing my second year in journalism at the University of Chile and, in general, I have liked a lot of all the signatures and thematics thought in my career. They are quite good and interesting, in addition to being taught by top-quality teachers of the country. However, I still think that there are some things that need to be added to the study programme, in which the school must work intensely to improve them every year, so that the new generations of journalists can use them in a good way. First of all, the subjects of the career have to include and develop in their programs greater interaction and participation of the students in the different areas that bring them closer to the truth work of the profession, such as the the TV and radio studies that are installed on the campus or the press points that are held in different parts of the city. As for the curriculum, the university should include more journalistic electives so that the students can enter all poss

POST 6: Time Travel to the Future

Image
In journalism, we are aware of the news of the country and the world. Everyday we see and listen to a lot of information about the society, the social, economic and criminal problems, the politics, society and many other things. Almost 8 billion people live on the planet, in which we can find people who think very differently in each area of life. When I read the speeches or opinions of important people who are in charge of making decisions in different countries around the world, I take a minute to think and reflect and I come to the conclusion that I don't enjoy living in a world without empathy for others or the search for social justice. We are living in times of extreme polarization, in which people have gained popularity by spreading their hate speeches around the social media and the mass media, constantly disrespecting the social minorities such as immigrants, homosexuals, natives and other social diversities, things that should not be accepted in these times. So, I would l

POST 5: My Future Job

Since I was studying my last course in school and I had to think about what I was going to study and work for the next few years, I was clear about what I wanted to do. I decided to go and enjoy journalism and I´m not regretting my decision. My first years in the university have opened my mind and they have allowed me to imagine myself as a journalist from the streets, serving information to the citizens, looking for the truth of things and supervising the powerful people of the country. Without a doubt, I would like to travel around the world, working in good mass media in different countries. Journalism is nothing without the reporter in the streets, so it would not work if someone planned to do it in an office. The last two years have made me realize the importance of a lot of things that affect the quality of life of the citizens of a country, things that should be treated with the responsibility and care they deserve. For this reason, I would like to enter into different areas of

POST 4: My Favorite TV show

In these years I don´t use to watch TV every day, except to watch the news of the day, football matches or any series and movie on Netflix. The responsibilities of the university and my other hobbies do not allow me to have time to watch television. But during my childhood, the reality was different. I used my free time watching SpongeBob SquarePants, one of my favorite cartoon series of all times. This animated comedy series chronicles the adventures of SpongeBob and his friends in the underwater city of Bikini Bottom. Patrick Star and Squidward Tentacles are neighbors of SpongeBob SquarePants, Mr. Krabs is SpongeBob's boss in the Krusty Krab restaurant, and he has a daughter named Pearl. In front of the Krusty Krab, it is his maximum restaurant rival, the Chum Bucket, managed by Plankton and his computer wife, Karen. In every episode of the animated series I have had a lot of fun and laughs because of the healthy and infallible humor. Anyway, I still remember The Camping Episode,

POST 3: A person I would like to meet

During all my life I have watched a lot of football on TV and in the stands. My dad took me for the first time to a stadium and since that moment I fell in love with that sport. The situation of the pandemic doesn´t allow me to go to the stadiums, but in my free time I try to watch as many games as I can. In the last decade of European football, Lionel Messi has been the best player in the world. The Argentinian player has won a lot of collective and individual titles and he has attended to many awards ceremonies in which the best players of the season get togheter. In spite of the success and the millions of dollars he has won in his career , he has always been humble and respectful. Unlike other players, fame not clouded his mind and he has always been silent against the critics of people who attack him for playing a bad football game or not winning a world cup for the Argentinian national team. His personality prevents him from responding to those comments and drives him to continue

POST 2: My Life Soundtrack

When I was a little kid, I was very related to American or British bands because my mum was an English teacher, so my playlist had all music in English. We both listened to and sang a lot of very popular songs of the 80s and 90s. Bon Jovi was one of the bands that left a mark on my childhood. It was my mom's favorite band and we were very close to go to the concert that they had in Chile, in 2013, when I was in sixth grade. Sadly we couldn't go but we still supported them. AC DC, Metallica and Pink Floyd were also bands that I used to listen to in the car because of my stepfather. He's such a fan of  rock music and he also plays the electric guitar every week in his break times. My family got separated and with the passing of the years, I left slowly the passion and connection with the English language and I got closer to Latin music. To have nothing of Spanish music in my cell phone, I exploded it with reggaeton songs. This is the music that came to my teenage years and I
